The many serving the few
After spending 10 days in my native Bogota, social inequalities repulsed me as they did decades ago. Yes, people are more educated, better dressed and definitely better fed. And many have employment -- minimum wage, some benefits, etc. But is that progress? Is that dignified? My sister in law invited me for a morning swim to an exclusive club. As we left the building, a security guard greeted us, a valet brought her car, at the club four security guards made sure we had nothing harmful, two clerks handled my guest registration, one more led us to the changing rooms, another one handed me towels, slippers (!!!) and a robe and at the pool four life guards and attendants made sure we were perfectly at ease. That's fifteen service people so two swimmers can work out!!! Colonials didn't have it better!!!
