Britain questions Blair on Iraq war (again)

Was the Iraq war justified? Most intelligent people would say no.
Was Saddam Hussein responsible, or linked in any way, the 9/11 terrorist attacks? Most honest people would say no.
Did the Troika Aznar, Bush and Blair, supported in a minor role by Berlusconi, fabricate facts to plunge humanity into one of the biggest foreign policy blunders in history? Most intelligent people would say absolutely.
So why are the culprits of this fiasco still around, fêted, treated as elder statesmen, respected and even listened to? The answer my friends, is blowing in the wind.
As we speak, Tony Blair is facing tough questions in yet another Iraq war inquiry in Britain. The purpose? Nothing. Nada. Rien. Because nothing comes out of these media events. It gives investigators something to investigate, commission panelist a reason to put on pompous panels, reporters something to write about, and bloggers something to blog about. End of day, poppycock.
British newspapers are talking about Blair's vigorous response. They say he stands by his decision, however wrong the facts may have proven. Last I checked, stuborness was a sign of stupidity, not a trait to respect and worthy of emulation. By day's end, Tony Blair will return home to his London luxury loft. He'll enjoy a fine glass of Bordeaux (what else???) with his greasy roast beef. He'll glow with pride at having faced the tough questions and held his ground. What a monstrosity. He'll be beaming.
Iraq, however, will remain plunged into a long journey of human suffering: the dead will remain dead, their families will keep grieving, the demoralizing climate of fear and uncertainty will remain the new reality, courtesy of Mr. Blair and company.

Give back the Nobel Prize Mr Obama

It just dawned on me -- the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner is leading the escalation of the War in Afghanistan. There's a major contradiction there. Am I the only one to see it? If the Oslo committee does not have the integrity to take it back. Then Mr Obama should have the decency to give it back. Give peace a chance!

A good soldier

A young man gets caught in a really bad situation and participates in the killing of innocent civilians. Upon realizing the atrocity he's committed, he speaks out. Few listen. I'm conflicted about it: part of me tells me he should be tried (by whom???) and pay for his crimes; the other part admires his courage to come forth. It was a touching piece, as everything Bill Moyers.

Blair may not become EU president: NYT 10/30/09

So it looks like Tony Blair may not be rewarded with the Presidency of the European Union. The highly coveted position would have crowned a brilliant career that included getting Britain into the Iraq war in 2003. With Bush and Aznar from Spain, Blair repeatedly said that Sadam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction --- in fact some were poised to strike London in minutes. He was lying through his teeth, as many investigations pointed out. The war resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, millions of lives destroyed, and the squandering of billions of dollars that could have gone for education, health care, development, you name it -- scars that won't heal for generations. And Blair wanted to the President of the European Union!!! The other face of arrogance is contempt for others. No doubt that Mr Blair, known in England as Bush's lap dog, simply despises us common folk. He should have followed his master (now a motivational speaker???!!!***) and Aznar and quietly withdraw into the toilet of history. He refused and so he was flushed away!
